By no means a newcomer – but a fresh face on the disco scene, over the course of the last decade Birdee has been extremely active in the dance music world – playing the most prestigious venues and festivals around the globe, collecting support from the world’s biggest players, and even picking up an award for Best Breakthrough DJ at London’s Fabric.
His music is supported by a veritable who’s who of dance music: DJs as diverse as Groove Armada, Purple Disco Machine, Horse Meat Disco and Claptone have all been spinning his tracks, while radio support has also been outstanding – as a matter of fact, Pete Tong recently opened his show with Birdee’s most recent single Start The Weekend.
Birdee began his career producing Breakbeat tracks and his first visit to the London at the music & Media exchange was a turning point in his career, when he began DJing.
His 1st disco track was signed by Andy Williams and since then Birdee has had many more immense tracks signed to prestigious labels such as Midnight Riot and Seamus Haji’s Big Love.
Birdee currently has 4 tracks in Traxsource Top 100 Nu Disco chart and has held on to #1 position in the chart with ‘What You Need’ for the past 2 weeks.

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ CRYSTAL WATERS # 071 - PART 1
Crystal Waters a true icon in house music speaks about her humble beginnings from a young child and being exposed to some of the greatest musicians because of her dad who was a famous jazz musician. She toured with her dad as a young artist and was able to get an education of what it is like to be an artist. As she finished college she takes a job with the State, at the Parole Board. Hungering to write music she hooks up with a keyboard player and they begin to start writing demos on a 4-track recorder. She then proceeds to go to a music conference in her hometown and is attracted to the Basement Boys because of their leather jackets that they were sporting at the time. She hands them her cassette demo and the rest is history. "Gypsy Woman" is created and a deal is signed. Crystal shares with us how her life changed from that moment the single dropped and became a huge pop hit.

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ BENNY SOTO # 088 - PART 1
For Benny Soto, it began, as it has for many New York club land veterans, with a visit to 84 King Street in downtown Manhattan. He says, “I had already been going out, but the first clubbing experience that really mattered was the Paradise Garage…just walking in there, it looked different, it sounded different, it felt different. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was home.” For Soto, then a poor kid from the South Bronx, the Garage opened up a whole new world. It was through the club that he met, and befriended, the late Keith Haring, eventually serving as the iconic artist’s studio assistant. It also expanded his aural horizons: “Because of the way that Larry Levan played,” Soto says, “I became more musically open-minded.” But perhaps importantly, the Garage provided an avenue for escape. “Back then, I didn’t have much joy in my life,” he admits, ‘Clubbing gave me a way to get away. Places like the Garage, though they were primarily gay, were so inclusive; it didn’t really matter who you were, what mattered was the freedom that you could find there.” And that feeling—that passion for freedom, both musically and personally—would set Soto on a path that has led to a lifetime in club land. He had no idea that it would also lead to a career, but even in those early days, he recalls, “I was very curious. If I was at a club, I would be checking out the sound and looking at the lights, trying to see how it all comes together -it was like a Broadway show, except the show was the crowd itself.” Eventually he secured a gig doing odd jobs at another iconic address, 6 Hubert Street, only blocks away from the Garage. The spot had once housed Area and Club Shelter; during Soto’s time there, it was Vinyl, home to the iconic Body & Soul. It was Body & Soul resident Danny Krivit who convinced Soto to take the next step. “He said to me, ‘I think you should be a promoter. People like you, and you have great energy. You’d be good at it.’ Of course,” Soto adds, “I had no idea what ‘being a promoter’ even meant!” Listen to him tell you what he learned and how you should be..

Kym Mazelle thru all the internships at all different record labels and working in press and being an intern for Music Attorneys decides to set up her own label called Police Records. In 1987, she worked with record producer Marshall Jefferson on the single "Taste My Love” which she funded and released on her label. The single takes off in the UK and she talks to her good friend recording artist Adonis from Traxs Records, as he just came back off touring in the UK and gets him to introduce her to his booking agent David Levy. David helps manage her a tour and even gets EMI Records to attend her show, they love what they heard and A&R Rob Sawyer signs her on the spot. EMI signed Kym to a 5-album deal and they help create the "First Female House Artist" and brings her to the commercial stardom. TRUE HOUSE STORIES™ W/ DJ PAULETTE # 054 - PART 2
Dj Paulette begins to work at Piccadilly Radio, and became Record librarian. While at Piccadilly she studied and work towards a degree in English. Paulette hung out at the Hacienda and funded her education through DJing. She wound up becoming a presenter on a 2 series of Juice between the Years of 1992-94, which helped paid for her decks. Paulette played at Flesh - once a month and held a residency at Hacienda for 4 years.
Dj Paulette went on to play super clubs such as Ministry of Sound, Heaven, and worked her way to becoming a press officer for Mercury records and other labels. Whilst studying for her degree, Paulette decided not to go on to do her Masters, she chose music as her profession. She would watch and study how DJs such as Danny Krivit, Paul Trouble Anderson, Carl Cox and CJ Macintosh would work there sets and from what she heard she developed her own techniques and created her own style. Being a successful presenter helped kickstart Paulette’s DJ career playing at all the venues in the UK and abroad. She went on to producing music in addition to DJing and TV presenting and radio personality DJ. Paulette is now preparing to write a book. Learn how Paulette worked to stay in the business for over 30 years, riding the waves and trying to maintain a steady career.

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ RON CARROLL # 067 - PART 2
Ron Carroll’s DJ Career in the late 1980s is cut short and you can hear why in this part of the interview. The Poster Wars Begin and Ron is blackballed from being able to promote or DJ at any parties in Chicago. Because he is shut out this now forces him to find another way to earn money in the music business. He discovers music production as his saving grace. In the productions world he hooks up with Ed Matthews and they together start to write songs. In the early 1990’s he ventures out to take a trip to Miami to go to the Winter Music Conference and meets NYC DJ Louie Vega. He asks Louie if he can write lyrics for any upcoming projects and Louie gives him the new demo music for the upcoming single with Barbara Tucker. In this part also Ron talks deeply about battling depression and trying to find himself in the years that follow after he has his first initial commercial success. As with all great life stories there is a happy and sad moments and you can listen to him talk about one of his biggest records that he wrote and sang on back in 1999 with the group Funkstar from France. This interview is deep and real.

The man behind the iconic brand Back 2 Basics speaks about his life from quitting high school and becoming a roadie. Come listen to one of the greatest promoters from the 1990s golden era of house music lay it all out on his rise to fame and being part of the New York City Club scene. His vision was to take a part of the New York Club scene and import into the UK and he did it and very well at that. Beer's obsession with the punk-music scene saw him become a groupie, hitching up with punk band The Clash. As a keen Photographer, he captured many exclusive shots of the bands he followed incorporating them into art projects at college. His persistence on the tour circuit led to his first proper role as a roadie and later as tour manager for bands including That Petrol Emotion, The Ramones, Ghost Dance, The Utah Saints, and The Sisters of Mercy who he lived with at the time. During a spell with Stourbridge noisemeisters, Pop Will Eat Itself, Beer found himself working on the 1987 Def Jam Records tour that included Public Enemy, Ll Cool J and Run - D.M.C., but life as a tour manager would soon takes its toll.
