TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ JOE SMOOTH # 082 - PART 1
Joe Smooth was a self-taught musician and started creating original music at the age of 12. During his teenage years, he began to make a name for himself as a DJ in the underground Chicago House Music scene. He is credited as essential to the creation of house music as a genre and the revival of the culture surrounding it. During his 20s he became an essential DJ for any viable club in Chicago. Smooth gained international acclaim with the release of his late 1980s tracks “Promise LAnd" (featuring Anthony Thomas), "They Want to be Free," and "I Try.” He is best known for "Promised Land," which spoke of how humans, as brothers and sisters, should unite in love and thrive in paradise. Joe Smooth's song has been covered several times and is still played today. Originally released in 1987, it peaked at No. 56 in the UK singles Chart in February 1989, following the Top 40 success of a cover version by The Style Council. An album of the same title became available in 1988, and a music video was produced for the single. A follow-up album, Rejoice, was released in 1990, which featured the hit single "They Want to be Free.”

TRUE HOUSE STORIES™ W/ TYREE COOPER # 034 - PART 1
Tyree Cooper the awesome super dupa producer, grew up in Chicago, starting out as a top Basketball Player but left to focus on music producing and Djing. Tyree began working with Mike Dunn but after a disagreement they initially parted ways but reunited at an event called Earthquake for freestyle battles which attracted over 500 people to the shows, packing out the club and the overspill of revellers took to partying on the streets outside. In the years of 1984 till 1986 these were Tyree’s most prominent production years. Chicago House music was his vibe and Tyree became a legend on the drum machine Roland TR-808. Tyree was turning out 4 tracks per night whilst continuing to work during the day, he worked 12 hours per night in the studio. Tyree was signed to DJ International Records and they would pay him $50 per drum beats and was even told by Larry Sherman of Trax Records that his music sucked! All of the tracks he produced were credited to Rocky Jones and all of his tracks according to management were not selling. Little did Tyree know that he had produced some huge hits but was never truly informed. Luckily for Tyree his hit record contracts were just 2 years long so to this day, he actually owns most of his music.

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ NICKY SIANO # 078 - PART 1
In 1971, at the tender age of 16, Nicky Siano getst his first DJing gig at The Roundtable in New York City. In February 1973, he opened The Gallery in Downtown Manhattan with his older brother Joe Siano. New Yorker Magazine called it "one of the five most visually breathtaking nightspots of its time”. The Gallery was, alongside Macuso's Loft and The Paradise Garage, one of the three most important clubs in New York’s 1970’s underground disco scene. Both Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles worked there before they both started there DJ careers. Knuckles had said in other interviews that he and Levan "spent a lot of the time hanging out in the booth, watching Nicky’s every move. He pretty much taught us what we were doing.” Nicky in this part shares with us his family life and what happened to him during his adolescent years that changed his life forever.

► DESCRIPTION:
LENNY FONTANA & D-TRAIN - WHEN YOU FEEL WHAT LOVE HAS
“When You Feel What Love Has” is the brand new 2016 song and dance production from D-Train and House music legend DJ Lenny Fontana. Lenny at the helm in the studio alongside James ‘D-Train’ Williams, together they have created another classic New York dance-floor hit with crisp beats and infectious melodies wrapped around a vocal that could only ever be recognised as the power-tones of James himself. The refrain “open my arms, I can’t believe, open my arms I can’t receive it” is a deep-rooted D-Train hook, perfectly executed as if it was straight off one of the act’s Prelude 12” smashes from the mid-80’s, the way that those songs always had a secondary vocal hook cleverly layered into the journey of the song like “with the love I have inside of me we can turn this world around” from “You’re The One” was a secondary, yet strong hook line that resonated on the dance floor. “When You Feel What Love Has” has that magic too as the rhythm reverberates around the room enrapturing your senses into one.
With five mixes, all high in production from the Original, the NYC Deeper Dubb plus NYC Deep Dubb Instrumental along with the Radio and instrumental from the Original mix. A perfect set..
Out on the world's leading House music label of the last two years - Karmic Power Records...
Early support from: Hector Romeo, Danny Rampling, Tedd Patterson, Jay Negron, Danny Buddha Morales, Eddie Amador, DJ Sir Charles Dixon (WBLS New York).

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ BENNY SOTO # 088 - PART 2
Benny Soto quickly learned, and learned from one of the best; the late, great super promoter Rob Fernandez. “The first big thing we did together was Roger Sanchez at Vinyl. I can even remember the date: 2/2/02. I was learning so much—contracts, dealing with managers, hospitality riders, everything.” Soto continued working with Fernandez until his sudden passing in summer of 2015—but at the same time, he was gaining the confidence to branch out on his own. Danny Krivit was an early partner (2002), teaming up with Soto to launch what became the still-vibrant 718 Sessions; another stone-cold vet, DJ Harvey, was an early accomplice as well. From its inception, until its closing, Soto was an integral part of the promotion and bookings team at the now revered, and recently closed, Output in Brooklyn, NY. The dates started coming fast and furious—flash forward to today, and Soto, who currently spends his time promoting shows around NYC and juggling various independent projects, is in the very top tier of NYC’s party wranglers. So what’s the next step for a guy who’s spent the better part of his life in dance clubs? DJ’ing, of course! “I’ve been going out and listening to DJs for 30 years,” he says, “and after that amount of time, I think you almost have to learn something. You gain a sense of what to do.” But as anyone who has spent time in the DJ community knows, there can sometimes be attitude toward those perceived as usurpers. “Sure, there’s been a bit of controversy, like people asking, ‘Oh, so now you’re a DJ, too?’ I just answer, ‘No. I’m Benny Soto.’ I’ve given my life to music, and this is just another layer of that life.” Nowadays, you can find Soto opening up for superstars or holding it down at after-parties, often spinning back-to-back with his fellow dance-music lifer, Nervous Records label head Mike Weiss. “Very few people have the legacy that Mike does,” he says. “I mean, the Nervous catalog…those were some of the songs that shaped the sound of global club music.” But Soto’s got his own musical identity as well. “I love to play music that feels good to me, that matters to me, that say something to me. Danny Tenaglia said the best thing to me: ‘You have to listen, and you have to find the candy.’ And that’s what I try to do—find music that’s special, that can take you to a different space.” Watch his life for Act 3 “The Final Curtain Call"

TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ BENNY SOTO # 088 - PART 1
For Benny Soto, it began, as it has for many New York club land veterans, with a visit to 84 King Street in downtown Manhattan. He says, “I had already been going out, but the first clubbing experience that really mattered was the Paradise Garage…just walking in there, it looked different, it sounded different, it felt different. As soon as I walked in, I knew I was home.” For Soto, then a poor kid from the South Bronx, the Garage opened up a whole new world. It was through the club that he met, and befriended, the late Keith Haring, eventually serving as the iconic artist’s studio assistant. It also expanded his aural horizons: “Because of the way that Larry Levan played,” Soto says, “I became more musically open-minded.” But perhaps importantly, the Garage provided an avenue for escape. “Back then, I didn’t have much joy in my life,” he admits, ‘Clubbing gave me a way to get away. Places like the Garage, though they were primarily gay, were so inclusive; it didn’t really matter who you were, what mattered was the freedom that you could find there.” And that feeling—that passion for freedom, both musically and personally—would set Soto on a path that has led to a lifetime in club land. He had no idea that it would also lead to a career, but even in those early days, he recalls, “I was very curious. If I was at a club, I would be checking out the sound and looking at the lights, trying to see how it all comes together -it was like a Broadway show, except the show was the crowd itself.” Eventually he secured a gig doing odd jobs at another iconic address, 6 Hubert Street, only blocks away from the Garage. The spot had once housed Area and Club Shelter; during Soto’s time there, it was Vinyl, home to the iconic Body & Soul. It was Body & Soul resident Danny Krivit who convinced Soto to take the next step. “He said to me, ‘I think you should be a promoter. People like you, and you have great energy. You’d be good at it.’ Of course,” Soto adds, “I had no idea what ‘being a promoter’ even meant!” Listen to him tell you what he learned and how you should be..
